Seed to Sale: Understanding How CBD is Extracted

Now that the consumption and licensed cultivation of marijuana has been legalized across Canada, the marijuana producing industry is gradually but surely expanding. This has made the plant more popular in our community and has helped raise awareness regarding its use.

So it’s safe to assume that you know what THC is. THC is the most reactive component of marijuana. It has psychoactive properties and, therefore, is the one ingredient that’s most widely known.

However, people often overlook the underdog; CBD. So let’s learn what CBD is and how it’s extracted!

What is CBD?

Unlike THC, CBD isn’t psychoactive. In fact, it triggers the release of Adenosine and Serotonin, and has a positive effect on our body and health. It can help with multiple health-related issues as well, such as managing anxiety and depression, as well as preventing cancer cells from spreading!

Why Extract CBD?

As stated above, CBD has several health benefits, but in order to make it suitable for human consumption, it must be extracted. CBD extraction is used to make a concentrated cannabinoid. For this, producers have to sow cannabis plants that have high levels of CBD.

How is CBD Extracted?

CBD can be extracted in a number of ways, depending on what the preferred end result is. The extraction methods include CO2 cannabis extraction, olive oil extraction, dry ice extraction, and many others.

CBD Oil Extraction

Although CO2 extraction is the best and safest method since, it isn’t the most popular option. The most common method of extracting CBD oil is via dry ice or olive oil, as these are cheaper options, easy to carry out, and comparatively safer than methods like the solvent extraction method, which we don’t recommend at any cost!

CBD Oil Extraction

The olive oil extraction method involves heating your Medical Cannabis at 248 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour and then adding olive oil to the mixture. This will release cannabinoid into the oil and you’ll have CBD oil at your disposal. This is one of the easiest CBD extraction methods and can be performed at home.

Dry Ice Extraction

Dry Ice Extraction

The other recommended option is the dry ice method. This can be performed at home as well, but is a little more complicated than the olive oil extraction method.

Along with your cannabis, you’d need the following:

  • A large amount of dry ice
  • A mirror
  • A blunt knife
  • Hands and eye protection gear
  • Plastic container (ideally a 5 gallon bucket)
  • Storage containers
  • Mesh bags

Once you’ve donned your protective gear, cut up your plant and pour it in the bucket, add dry ice and leave for a couple of minutes. Cover your bucket with the mesh bags to stop the frozen trichomes. Then shake the bucket over the large mirror. The hash that falls on the mirror’s surface should be collected and stored safely.

Although, these CBD extraction methods can be performed at home, they can be tiresome, especially the dry ice method. So it’s best to get connected with the best to get Medical Marijuana Card Online and just order medical cannabis online. Register with us to start ordering today!
